Health of AIDS-HIV Patients is Predicted by Breath Holding Test

Abstract

Critically low cell oxygen concentrations in HIV-AIDS patients have been proven by many published studies (Mootsikapun et al, 1996; Wang et al, 1993; Pellicelli et al, 2001; Khare & Sharland, 1999; Zhang et al, 2002; Long et al, 2009; Deshmane et al, 2009). In particular, more recent studies observed higher expression of the hypoxia-inducable factor -1 was associated with Kaposi sarcoma progression (Long et al, 2009). Other medical studies discovered that Stage 4 HIV-AIDS patients have up to 30 and more breaths per minute at rest (Montaner et al, 1993; Zhongguo et al, 2004), while the norm value for adults is only 12 breaths in one minute. Hence, we can expect low body oxygen test results when hyperventilation is the case.

        How to define one’s body oxygen level

After your usual exhalation, pinch your nose with fingers and count your CP (control pause) in seconds using a watch. Keep your nose pinched until you experience light or initial stress or first desire to breathe. If you release the nose and start breathing at the initial signs of distress, you can resume your usual breathing pattern (in the same way as you were breathing just prior to the test).

Do not extend breath holding for too long (this is the most frequent mistake seen in people who do the test for the first time). You should not get stressed at all or gasp for air or open your mouth after the test. The test should be easy and comfortable. The correct CP test should not interfere with your previous breathing pattern. [Warning. Very few people with migraine headaches, heart disease, and panic attacks may experience some negative symptoms minutes later after this easy or light version of the test. If this happens, they should temporary avoid this test.]

        Great results of the clinical trial for the Buteyko method with HIV/AIDS patients

Russian MDs practicing the Buteyko breathing method, as an additional therapy for HIV-AIDS patients, had a successful clinical trial for a group of HIV patients with very encouraging results. For these doctors the body oxygen test is the main measuring tool of personal health. What are the usual oxygenation numbers for HIV patients?
1-10 s of oxygen – Last or 4-th stage of the disease: HIV wasting syndrome, candidiasis of trachea, chronic herpes simplex infection, pneumocystis pneumonia, Kaposi sarcoma, disseminated non-tuberculous mycobacteria infection, bronchi and/or lungs, recurrent severe bacterial pneumonia,  progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, extrapulmonary cryptococcosis including meningitis, chronic isosporiasis, chronic cryptosporidiosis, HIV encephalopathy, lymphoma (cerebral or B cell non-Hodgkin), extrapulmonary histoplasmosis, coccidiomycosis, invasive cervical carcinoma, recurrent septicaemia (including non-typhoidal Salmonella), symptomatic HIV-associated nephropathy or HIV-associated cardiomyopathy
10-20 s – Fatigue, night sweats, mouth ulcers, skin rashes, some digestive complaints, and skin infections. Typical problems are chronic oral and/or vaginal thrush (a fungal rash or spots), recurrent herpes blisters on the mouth (cold sores) and/or genitals, ongoing fevers and persistent diarrhea, and possible weight loss
20-40 s 24/7 – no need for most types of medication and no major clinical symptoms
Over 40 s CP – excellent health, including blood tests results, parameters of the immune system, digestion, and mental well-being.

These finding are in agreement with general observations reported in western medical articles related to advance of many other chronic diseases: sick people have heavy/deep breathing (hypervnetilation), but their body oxygen results are low. Healthy people breathe less at rest, but their body oxygen is higher.

This natural and stress-free test is valuable in numerous situations to check the effects of various factors, including allergies, nutritional deficiencies, sleeping positions, exercise, etc. One can increase tissue oxygen content naturally (by breathing slower and lighter or less). This is also the main goal of the Buteyko breathing method. What reduces cell oxygen content? The main physiological factors which make breathing heavier include: mouth breathing (during sleep too), sleeping on the back, lack of physical activity, exercise with mouth breathing, overheating, nutritional deficiencies, junk food, overeating, sleeping too long, poor posture (slouching), stress, and many others.
