Bronchospasm : The Real Story

Bronchospasm or a bronchial spasm is a constriction of the muscles in the walls of the airways in bronchioles. Most medical sites claim that it is caused by various chemical causes that appear out of nowhere or due to some chemical drugs or allergic triggers, like milk, peanuts, tree pollen, dust, and so forth.

However, in real life both these factors (constriction of smooth muscles in bronchioles and allergic reactions) are normal reactions to alveolar hyperventilation and alveolar hypocapnia (low CO2 in airways). Let us consider medical facts: minute ventilation in people with COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis and other conditions.

These people are to suffer from bronchospasm since they breathe about 2-2.5 times more than the medical norm. Therefore, they have low alveolar CO2 concentrations. CO2 is potent, some studies claim most potent, relaxant of smooth muscles. In addition, low CO2 causes tissue hypoxia and therefore promotes suppression of the immune system and appearance of allergies.

NormalBreathing.com provides the pictures that explains the mechanism of bronchospasm and its successful medical treatment based on increased Co2 in airways and oxygen levels in body cells. Such treatment is going to relax smooth muscles and gradually eliminate allergies.
